A Philosophy Supported by Evidence
This website represents the final component of the application package required for the position of Field Placement Coordinator at St. Thomas University. It is designed to provide additional evidence in support of my attached curriculum vitae and teaching and learning philosophy.
A Career Showcase
The purpose of the McKay Dossier Part II website is two-fold:
- to provide evidence of the alignment between my teaching and learning philosophy within six themes: work experience; academic and non-academic studies; leading sustainable initiatives; partnerships; new initiatives; and proud moments.
- to satisfy the requirement to provide evidence of teaching effectiveness, scholarly work, and professional contributions related to select areas of expertise.
Summary Statement: A Framework of Engagement, A Philosophy of Teaching and Learning
Engagement in teaching and learning is a fluid and fluctuating enactment as inferred from the behaviors of both teacher and learner. Such enactment demonstrates an intersection of intellectual, emotional, or physical participation within the educational environment. Engagement is positively influenced when teachers and learners have multiple avenues of access within the classroom, school, and district, relationships at all levels are considered primordial, hierarchies are flattened, and structures are inclusionary. Engagement means the people, practices, and value of the learning are sufficiently visible and accessible, such that all involved identify with the learning environment through belonging. Teaching and learning engagement is shaped by relevance, capacity, imagination, and alignment as experienced through individual and collective experiences.
