Professional Experience

A curriculum vitae detailing a history of my work experience is included as component of the written application package. Throughout the various positions I have held, regular formal evaluation was a welcome component. This page will be used to highlight what my immediate supervisors documented as both my strengths and my next areas of growth over a span of 15 years.

NBTA Deputy Executive Director - June 2020

Each NBTA staff member is subject to a formal performance evaluation every three years. My acting term as Deputy Executive Director coincided with COVID-19 closures and brought with it unprecedented expectations and challenges. Upon completion of acting position, I received the following comments in my performance review:

You took on responsibility for the NBTA Strategic Plan, mentoring and guiding staff, and assisting with Executive & Board preparation. You also led all of us in the development of a contingency/continuity plan that helped us deal with the multitude of issues presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. Your insight, organizational skills, willingness to ask the difficult questions within our NBTA staff group and the larger internal groups helped all of us find our way through some very challenging times. You have taken on all of these additional responsibilities (some very sensitive) with a reasoned and confident approach that I have appreciated.

DISC Workplace Profile - October 2019

The Dominance, Influence, Conscientiousness, and Steadiness (DISC) report uses my individual assessment data to provide information about my workplace priorities and preferences. It also provides feedback to enable better connections with colleagues who may have different styles from my own.

My DISC style is C: I take a logical, objective approach to my work to ensure accuracy. I tend to be quite systematic and enjoy creating standards that help bring about efficient, high-quality outcomes. I have a strong questioning side. In the workplace, I contribute diligence and an ability to find practical solutions to complex problems.

As a style C, I also experience challenges particular to my profile. I find it stressful to make decisions if I do not feel I have enough information or accept new plans at face value. My cautious nature may prevent me from taking chances that could be beneficial. While I enjoy contributing to a team, I value my independence. I rarely like to demonstrate vulnerability in front of colleagues.

360 Degree Evaluation - August 2008

A required component of the New Brunswick Educational Leadership Academy was the completion of a 360 Degree evaluation tool. I selected five colleagues - superintendent, previous administrators, classroom teachers - to collect survey feedback  I also completed the survey and an overall performance rating was assigned by combining my results with those of my outside observers.

Key findings in select areas denoted strengths in the following skills:

  • setting clear and measurable objectives
  • encouraging improvement in teaching and learning
  • seeking contributions from all team members
  • eliciting perceptions, feelings, or concerns of others
  • analyzing information to determine the important elements of a situation
  • initiating action/action plans for improvement
  • determining the criteria that indicate a problem or issue is resolved
  • speaking articulately and tailoring messages to meet the needs of unique audiences
  • written communication
  • encouraging others to change behaviours that inhibit professional growth

Key findings in select areas denoted weaknesses in the following skills:

  • articulating a vision related to teaching and learning
  • asking others for their perceptions of their professional development needs
  • seeking to develop alliances outside the school to support high quality teaching and learning
  • seeking consensus among team members
  • seeking to identify the cause of a problem

This information was then used to develop a personal growth plan and conduct an action research project on teacher evaluation.
